Mohsin Hamid’s latest novel, “How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia,” is a story that borrows from self-help books. A poor young boy from an impoverished village comes to a sprawling, wild, violent city and makes and loses a fortune. The tale is set in an unnamed country very much like Pakistan, where Hamid grew up and still lives. Here, Hamid reads an excerpt from the book.
